Micro&Nanovesicles in Health & Disease

130 delegates, from different nationalities, from different scientific backgrounds, with an interest in micro and nano vesicles. 23rd-24th September 2010 - Oxford Magdalene College - UK
This first meeting organised by Pr Ian Sargent and Dr Paul Harrison aimed to gather microparticles experts from all around the world to share experience and knowledge and better understand the possible role of microparticles in a number of pathologies (cancer, pregnancy complications, …) The programme consisted in lectures on the biology of microparticles, and their place in health and disease and their multiple potential functions: communication, transport of genetic information, support of coagulation… The issues of analysing microparticles standardisation and pre-analytical variables were developed by Françoise Dignat Georges on behalf of the ISTH SSC for vascular biology. The organisers invited the industry and companies like Stago to present their latest developed tools for the measurement of MPs in biological fluids.
Stago was well represented with 2 speakers: Dr Barry Woodhams, our R&D Scientific Director gave a presentation on pro-coagulant assays and presented the STA®-ProCoag PPL for the measurement of the pro-coagulant activity of phospholipids and microparticles.
Dr Philippe Poncelet, from BioCytex presented the latest improvements of the Megamix, a tool for the standardisation of flow cytometry analysis of microparticles.
A second meeting should be organised next year by Françoise Dignat Georges.
