Royal Sussex County Hospital Becomes First UK Site to Install Stago’s sthemO 301 Haemostasis System

Brighton, UK – March 2026 — Stago UK is proud to announce the first UK installation of the sthemO 301 haemostasis analyser at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter in haemostasis diagnostics for the Trust and for Stago’s next-generation technology in the UK.

The installation replaces legacy systems and reflects a long-standing partnership between Stago and the Trust, built on shared values of innovation, reliability, and patient care.

Shawn Cotton, Haemostasis Lead Biomedical Scientist at Royal Sussex County Hospital, commented:
“The sthemO 301 will make a significant impact on our workflow. Its speed, intuitive interface, and automation capabilities will allow us to focus more on clinical interpretation and less on manual tasks. This upgrade is a major step forward in delivering timely and accurate results for our patients.”

Mac Macaulay, Pathology LIMS Manager / Deputy Head of Pathology DDS said:
Integrating the analyser and its data manager into our existing workflows and systems required thoughtful coordination, but thanks to strong teamwork and the dedicated support from Stago, the process was a success. The new equipment delivers direct clinical benefits to patients who rely on the expertise of our specialist coagulation/haemostasis section.

Supporting a Demanding Laboratory

The Haematology Laboratory at Royal Sussex County Hospital provides diagnostic services for a wide range of clinical departments, including emergency care, oncology, and outpatient clinics. Serving thousands of patients monthly, the lab plays a critical role in supporting timely diagnosis and treatment.

The introduction of the sthemO 301 and sthemE Manager will help the lab manage increasing demand, reduce turnaround times, and improve traceability and compliance. Future plans include expanding digital connectivity across multiple sites and integrating advanced quality control tools.

SthemO 301

The sthemO 301 is a high-throughput, fully automated coagulation analyser designed for medium to large laboratories. Key features include:

  • Dual technology for clot detection exclusive combination of simultaneous mechanical and optical measurements in a brand-new measuring cell
  • Multiple detection technologies to deliver a broad range of coagulation parameters with precision and speed
  • Ergonomic design for ease of use and reduced manual workload
  • Immuno-chemiluminescence for superior analytical performance
  • Continuous loading and STAT prioritisation for urgent samples
  • Unique cuvette design compatible with all embedded technologies

SthemE Manager

Complementing the analyser is sthemE Manager, Stago’s intelligent data management solution that:

  • Streamlines workflow, improves productivity and reduces TAT with expert rules and clinical decision-support
  • Supports multi-site and multi-LIS integration on one single database, enabling cross‑site patient & QC management.
  • Advanced Expert Rules and Coagulation algorithms facilitate best practice and aid in clinical decision making
  • Elevates quality management with an advanced QC management solution (peer comparison, acceptance testing and KPI dashboards)
  • Ensures total traceability with a full audit trail

The built‑in accreditation toolkit provides a comprehensive suite of reports, including Measurement Uncertainty, to help laboratories achieve and retain UKAS accreditation.

Together, sthemO and sthemE form a fully integrated ecosystem that boosts productivity, reduces errors, and supports accreditation and compliance.

Gillian Eyre, Commercial Operations Director UK & Ireland at Stago, said:
“We are delighted to celebrate this first UK installation with Royal Sussex County Hospital. The sthemO 301 and sthemE Manager offer a powerful combination of performance and intelligence. We look forward to further installations across the UK and to showcasing these innovations at the upcoming ISTH Congress 2026.”
